Boosted by an impressive streak of results, Hugo’s next challenge will be the Europe Smash, one of the four most important WTT events. The competition will be held in Malmö, Sweden, from August 14 to 24. The main draw begins on the 17th.

Ranked #3 in the world, Hugo will be the #2 seed at Europe Smash. Among the Top 30 athletes, only two will not be present – check out here the full list of participants.

GREAT MOMENT

Hugo comes from five consecutive finals, with four titles won. Since April, he won the ITTF World Cup, WTT Star Contender Ljubljana, WTT Contender Buenos Aires, and WTT Star Contender Foz do Iguaçu, besides being runner-up in the World Championships. In this period, he had 27 wins in 28 matches.  

BRAZILIANS IN MALMÖ

Brazil will have four players in Sweden for the Europe Smash. Hugo will compete in the men’s singles and mixed doubles, alongside Bruna Takahashi.

COMPETITION SYSTEM

All the matches in the Europe Smash will take place in a single-elimination system. Singles matches will be played in best of five games until the round of 16. From the quarter-finals onwards, the matches will be best of 7 games.
